This website captures the story of the life of a busy and vibrant Church of Scotland Parish. A journey that starts in 1776 and leads us here to the current day, a 250 year journey. Many people will have their own story about their part in this journey. This is mine. Ministers come and go, the Parish is the constant and the people who make up the congregation and parish.
Let me start with my story. I was ordained and inducted as Minister of Word and Sacrament in June 1989 into the Charge of Hawick: St. Mary’s & Old Parish Church. That was the start of my Ministerial journey where I served for eight and a half years, that led me to nearly 17 years as Minister of Hamilton: Hillhouse until my call to serve in the Parish of Gourock: Old Gourock and Ashton.
So now as the 21st Minister of Gourock, then Old Gourock, the 3rd Minister to serve Old Gourock & Ashton and the 1st Minister to serve Old Gourock & Ashton Linked with St.Ninian’s Greenock, Parish Church it is my privilege to welcome you to this website supporting the 250 years of Christian witness as the Church of Scotland Parish Church here in Gourock.
A quarter of a millennium is worthy of recognition and I find myself humbly linked to all those who have ministered here before me. All of us have had one thing in common, our call to serve the Gospel of Christ and the people of this parish within the guiding tenets of the national Church.
Since November 2014 it has been my joy to minister with the Office Bearers and members of this congregation. As the changing name of the Church implies much has changed in the last 250 years, indeed the building we worship in today will be 200 years old in 2032. No doubt further changes will come. What will always remain is the Church as part of and sharing with the community and preaching a Gospel of Hope, Grace and love as Christ has called us to do.
