On-street parking around the church is generally available, however, it can get busy as the service start time approaches. 2 disabled parking bays are available at the side of the church (on Binnie Street). The easy-access, street-level path is adjacent to the disabled parking bays.
Sunday worship usually starts at 10:00am. On occasions the start time may change, for example, when we have joint services or on Remembrance Sunday. Best to check with our weekly update notice which can be found here.
There is no dress code – what you decide to wear is entirely up to you.
Some people like to dress up a little, or wear a suit, others are very comfortable in their jeans and trainers.
Children are very welcome at our Church and there is usually an all-age talk after the first hymn and prayer, which always involves younger visitors and members of our Young Church.
During the second hymn, the children attending Young Church or Creche, make their way into the Church Halls via the Sanctuary side-door.
Visiting children are always welcome to join Young Church – please speak to a member of the Welcome Team who will be happy to help you with this.
We have wheelchair access to the Sanctuary, chancel area and all halls. A disabled toilet can be found in both groups of church halls. Our Welcome Team will be happy to give you directions or help.
There are spaces in the Church set aside for wheelchair users and disabled parking spaces are available at the side of the Church.
The service is also transmitted through a hearing loop system.
The easiest thing to do is to follow those around you but if you are less able, or feel unwell, please feel free to sit at all times.
Generally, we stand for hymns and stay seated at other times.
After the last hymn, we remain standing for the benediction and closing hymn.
We sing hymns during the service, as a way to worship God, to show our thanks to him and to express how we feel.
The words for the hymns are projected onto the screens around the Sanctuary.
Prayer is when we talk to God and it is a very important part of all our services. At different times during the service we will pray for different things: for ourselves, for our community and for the wider world.
Prayer is usually led by our Minister.
During each service, our Minister will give a talk (also known as a sermon or reflection), focused on the specific passages of the Bible that were read earlier in the service.
The sermon helps us to understand the Bible and its message, and how to apply it to our lives.
After the service we serve tea and coffee in the Arran Hall (situated to the rear of the Sanctuary).
This is a lovely opportunity to chat, catch up with friends and get to know each other if you are new to Church, or to the wider Gourock community.
